24 September 2026 Giampaolo Dallara Inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame
Detroit (U.S.), September 24, 2026
Engineer Giampaolo Dallara, founder and Chairman of Dallara, has been inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame, the most prestigious international honor reserved for individuals who have made a decisive contribution to the development of the global automotive industry. The induction ceremony took place yesterday in Detroit, bringing together some of the most influential figures in the global automotive industry.
Engineer Dallara’s induction into the Hall of Fame recognizes more than sixty years of work dedicated to innovation, engineering, and motorsports. In the official citation, Giampaolo Dallara was honored for advancing engineering excellence in motorsport and for founding one of the world’s most influential racing car manufacturers.
The evening was made even more memorable by the presence of Eddie Cheever, winner of the 1998 Indianapolis 500, who introduced Giampaolo Dallara to the audience at the ceremony. In his remarks, Cheever recalled the professional and personal journey he shared with the engineer, retracing a story that has its roots in the 1998 victory at Indianapolis with a Dallara chassis—the Italian manufacturer’s first win in the most famous race in the United States.
As part of the Class of 2026, Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation; the founders of TomTom—Harold Goddijn, Corinne Vigreux, Peter Frans Pauwels, and Pieter Geelen; and Tom Barrett and Russ Jackson, founders of Barrett-Jackson—were also inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame.
Founded in 1939, the Automotive Hall of Fame has honored some of the most influential figures in the global automotive industry throughout its history, including Henry Ford, Enzo Ferrari, Soichiro Honda, Ferdinand Porsche, Ayrton Senna, and Sergio Marchionne. Giampaolo Dallara’s induction thus adds a new Italian name to a list of pioneers who have left a lasting mark on automotive history.
This recognition comes just a few months after the engineer was inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame and confirms the significance of Dallara’s contribution to the development of international motorsports and, in particular, U.S. racing, where the company now plays a leading role as the exclusive chassis supplier for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
From Varano de’ Melegari to Detroit, Giampaolo Dallara’s journey remains one of the most remarkable stories in Italian automotive and motorsport engineering, a story that the international automotive community has chosen to celebrate by welcoming him among its most influential figures.
