Naturally, in addition to simulation, vehicles must also be tested in the laboratory and on the road.

Over the years, Dallara has developed laboratory procedures to measure the elasto-kinematic characteristics of the vehicles quickly and accurately. Additionally, the company has specialized equipment for testing the strength and stiffness of a post bench 7 and a bench for carrying out fatiguing tests on isolated components and a complete wheel assembly.

Post Rig Bench 7

The dynamic test bench, or Post Rig, is a device that tests and develops vertical dynamics, allowing us to accelerate the development of suspension settings, mainly of the springs, bars, and shock absorbers.

Seven pistons, four of which are for the independent movement of each wheel and three for the reproduction of the loads on the chassis, stress the car and reproduce the movements and accelerations generated by the road profile. They also reproduce the aerodynamic loads and load transfers developed during braking, curves and acceleration.

Essentially, the Post Rig can reproduce the stress registered on the track or on the road. By analyzing the car’s response to the stresses that it receives, reacting to different adjustments, it is possible to improve road performance in the laboratory, saving both time and money. Even small changes to the springs, shock absorbers, anti-roll bars, and weight distribution can remarkably improve performance.

Static Test Bench

Dallara laboratories have a static bench that can measure the vertical and lateral yielding of the complete car, the torsional rigidity, and the stiffness to the roll.

Dallara’s static bench, installed in 1990, has been repeatedly updated and improved upon. This tool has helped the company collect an extensive archive of experimental over the years, with information on both race and road cars (F1, F3000, F3, GP2, World Series, Sportscar, IndyCar, Indy Lights, Tourism, DTM, etc...).

In addition to the test bench, there is also equipment that measures the height of the center of gravity and the moment of yaw inertia.
These equipment and tools are certainly not Dallara’s exclusive domain, but they lend experience and knowledge that generates a continuous demand for testing operations and focused consultancy, for which we guarantee maximum confidentiality.

Fatiguing Test Bench

A particular experimentation area is the preparation, conduction and analysis of the results for fatiguing cycles of components or complete wheel assemblies.

Dallara is increasingly asked for the design and construction of components with reliable durability guarantees, under conditions of use and abuse, so as to reach a higher active and passive safety threshold.

Development and Track Tests

Dallara offers, to both race teams and major automobile manufacturers, expert advice and professional after-sales service to conduct and carry out track and road development programs. This advice is based on the company’s extensive experience in competition fields, recognized technical expertise, and availability of reliable data.

Dallara also produces, upon request, analytical tools for specific applications, in order to accelerate the development of the vehicle.

The company’s presence on the track during the development stages is important, allowing for fast solutions to potential problems.
