Since 2001, Dallara has been the sole supplier of the Indy Lights series, a championship whose main goal is to prepare drivers for the IndyCar category.

Indy Lights races are held concurrently and on the same tracks as IndyCar (Speedway, oval, short, permanent, and citizen circuits), in order to train the young drivers for real race conditions and to generate the necessary attention from IndyCar teams.

Among the IndyCar drivers who have raced successfully in the Indy Lights are Marco Andretti, Josef Newgarden, Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Scott Dixon.

The Dallara IL-15 is a collaboration between Dallara’s Italian headquarters in Varano Melegari (Parma) and Dallara Indycar Factory in Speedway, Indiana. The new car offers a modern, stylish appearance and provides the proper training required for drivers as the final step on the ladder to the Verizon IndyCar Series.

The chassis are powered by 2.0-liter turbocharged Mazda MZR-R engines. Developed in conjunction with Advanced Engine Research (AER), the MZR-R was first campaigned by Mazda in the American Le Mans Series and Mazda customer teams in the European Le Mans Series. The engine enjoyed several milestone victories including Mazda’s first-ever major success in North American sports car racing, as well as the 2011 LMP1 engine manufacturers championship.  The engine, further developed by AER produces 450 horsepower and can last an entire season without needing to be rebuilt.
